ILM Level 7 Certificate & Diploma in Leadership & Management (through Executive Coaching)

The ILM Level 7 Certificate and Diploma in Leadership and Management are ILM's most senior qualifications. They are designed for practising and aspiring senior managers and leaders who are seeking to develop their professional capability and personal brand, at the same time recognising that they must satisfy various stakeholders. These managers will be looking to make the best use of resources, understand the need to innovate and optimise performance, within the strategic context of the organisation. They may also have to present arguments for change, construct business cases, lead change implementation and evaluate the impact of that change. Each course is delivered through a unique blend of learning, centred on executive coaching, that is tailored to the needs of each student. They are demanding courses, but the rewards can be very high.

The Programme

The Certificate in Leadership and Management consists of one, flexible mandatory unit that allows the learner to identify and work on the areas of leadership and management specific to their own work context and of particular interest and relevance. Their work will seek to use personal learning to demonstrate ways in which leadership and management can make a real difference to the organisation and to themselves.

The Diploma in Leadership and Management consists of two additional mandatory units. The first focuses on presenting arguments for change, constructing business cases and leading change implementation. The second focuses on the creation and maintenance of high performance cultures. As before, in both cases, activities will focus in blending theory and practice in order to achieve lasting impacts on both the organisation and the student.

Both courses are centred on a combination of executive coaching and work based learning. Students define a set of objectives designed to have a real impact on their workplace and develop these into a workbased learning project. As they progress through the programme, supported by their coach, their work focusing on achieving high levels of impact for themselves and their organisation, by applying their learning to the workplace and evaluating the results. Their learning evolves as they progress, drawing on both structured online learning programmes and a large library of materials, provided by both ILM and CMI. At the end of each unit, they present their findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.

The impacts of these programmes are many and varied. For organisations, there is the prospect of quantified impacts on the areas on which students work. They will also see the growth of senior management capability, which is likely to have a long lasting positive effect on performance.

Students will see growth in their professional capabilities and personal brand. They will gain valuable experience in working on and improving strategic issues within an organisation and will grow and develop in ways that are both predictable and not immediately obvious at the start of the course.

Progression Routes

The Level 7 Certificate and Diploma are most prestigious qualifications in their own right and are the Institute of Leadership and Management’s most senior awards. They can provide students with up to 60 credits at Level 7. These credits are equivalent to a PG Certificate and one third of a Masters in most university business schools. They can be used as a stepping stone into advanced entry into Masters level qualifications. Entry Requirements There are no specific entry requirements but participants will normally be either practising or aspiring senior managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands. They will normally be expected to be able to demonstrate this through holding some form of leadership and / or qualification at level 5 or above.
