EMCC Global Awards nomination - Jeff Matthews

All of us at The Academy of Leadership and Management are delighted that our partner and colleague, Jeff Matthews of The Madison Group, was nominated for an accolade at the 2020 EMCC Global Awards.

Jeff, who supervises executive and senior level coaches on our ILM Level 7 courses, was nominated in the category of ‘practitioner’ for his outstanding contribution to the world of supervision.

The EMCC exists to develop, promote and set the expectation of best practice in mentoring, coaching, and supervision globally for the benefit of society. EMCC Global gives out three awards annually – one for mentoring, one for coaching, and one for supervision.  A panel of judges, chaired by the EMCC President and made up of previous winners, select the award winners.

Jeff was nominated for his work with individuals in the craft of coaching and mentoring. He said: “Supervision has been a key aspect of my own development as a coach for the last 25 years. I’ve always had a supervisor. I believe coaching is a craft skill, and as such it is imperative that we learn the skills of reflective practice to develop our capability as coaches. It was a natural progression for me to add the skills of coaching supervision and having begun supervising 15 years ago, it’s an honour to have one’s work recognised in this way.”

The coaching industry has grown exponentially in recent years, with people from a range of professional backgrounds entering into the occupation. However, the industry has few barriers to entry, therefore supervision is essential in order to establish high standards of competence and professionalism.

Receiving supervision is beneficial for coach wellbeing and covers organisations and professionals in areas such as due diligence, ethics and quality. Coach supervision is vital to maintain, sustain, and evolve good practice and failure to do so could have significant professional consequences.

Through his coaching programmes, Jeff works with students to help them achieve their goals, at a pace and style or learning that suits them. The Academy offers coaching and mentoring programmes from ILM Level 3 all the way up to Level 7 (Masters level), including ILM Level 7 qualifications for Coach Supervisors.
